CYFR Technology was founded in 2022 on a simple observation: the encryption that protects enterprise data also blinds the enterprise to what is happening to that data. A file storage system that cannot read your files is secure. A file storage system that cannot tell you when someone in a foreign country downloads every file in your account at 3:00 AM is a liability.
The name reflects this duality. CYFR — from "cipher" — represents the encryption: client-side, zero-knowledge, mathematically guaranteed. Watch represents the observability layer: continuous monitoring, anomaly detection, immutable audit trails. You cannot have one without the other in a production system. Our domain, cyfr.technology, is the brand. It is what we do.
CYFR Technology is the monitoring and observability tier that sits across all CYFR products. It does not inspect content — it cannot, by design. Instead, it monitors metadata: access patterns, geographic distributions, velocity anomalies, credential usage, key rotation events, and system health. It produces alerts, reports, and dashboards. It feeds the immutable compliance ledger. It is the reason a CYFR customer can prove, to an auditor or a court, exactly who accessed what and when — even though CYFR itself never saw the content.
This is not an aftermarket bolt-on. The monitoring layer is architecturally co-equal with the encryption layer. Every access event is a monitoring event. Every key negotiation is a telemetry point. The system was designed this way from the beginning, because the founders had previously built encrypted storage systems that were secure in theory and opaque in practice — and had seen the operational consequences.
