Distributed Systems Engineer

Full-time

Engineering · Remote (Global) · Posted 2026-05-04

Our storage layer spans dozens of bare-metal nodes across multiple colocation facilities. We need an engineer who understands distributed consensus, replication, and failure detection to help us build the next generation of our storage fabric.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement distributed storage and consensus protocols
  • Build failure detection, leader election, and automatic failover systems
  • Optimize data placement and replication strategies across geographic regions
  • Write rigorous tests — Jepsen-style partition testing, fault injection, chaos engineering
  • Debug subtle concurrency, ordering, and consistency issues in production
  • Author design documents and architecture decision records

Requirements

  • 6+ years of systems engineering experience
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems theory — consensus (Raft, Paxos), CAP, CRDTs
  • Strong systems programming in Rust, Go, or C++
  • Experience building and operating distributed systems in production
  • Comfortable reasoning about consistency models and failure modes
  • Excellent written communication and design documentation skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with distributed storage systems (Ceph, TiKV, FoundationDB)
  • Published research or conference talks on distributed systems
  • Experience with formal specification (TLA+, Alloy)
  • Background in database internals
