Staff Cryptographer

Full-time

Security Research · Remote (Global) · Posted 2026-05-18

CYFR Watch's zero-knowledge architecture depends on applied cryptography that is correct, performant, and provably secure. We are seeking a staff cryptographer to design and review our key exchange protocols, per-session encryption schemes, and future privacy-preserving features.

Responsibilities

  • Design and formally specify cryptographic protocols for client-side encryption
  • Review and harden existing key exchange and session negotiation implementations
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate cryptographic primitives correctly
  • Author security proofs, threat models, and protocol documentation
  • Stay current with developments in applied cryptography and post-quantum readiness
  • Advise leadership on cryptographic roadmap and risk assessment

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent research experience in cryptography or a closely related field
  • Published peer-reviewed work in applied cryptography, protocols, or formal verification
  • Fluency in at least one systems language (Rust, C, Go) and Python
  • Experience implementing cryptographic primitives — not just using libraries
  • Strong understanding of side-channel attacks and mitigations

Nice to Have

  • Experience with zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs, Bulletproofs)
  • Familiarity with threshold cryptography and MPC
  • Contributions to cryptographic standards bodies (IETF, NIST)
